A BIW clamp unit holds a sheet-metal panel against its locating surfaces while welding, joining or inspection takes place. Its job is not to define the panel position - that comes from the locating scheme - but to preserve that position without distortion.
A slide unit carries locating, clamping or process equipment along a controlled path when a fixed unit would block panel loading, robot access or weld-gun movement. The design must control both the working position and the retracted position.
A riser is the structural connection between a fixture base and the unit mounted above it. It establishes height and orientation while transferring clamp, locator and process loads into the base with acceptable stiffness.
